PS4 codenamed ‘Orbis’
According to a Kotaku report, the PlayStation 4 has been codenamed ‘Orbis’. Orbis is Latin for the word ‘circle’. Collaborated with the new PSP model name ‘Vita’, the term ‘Orbis Vita’ translates to ‘The Circle of Life’. Such a name suggests that perhaps there will be a high level of integration combining the PS Vita and PlayStation 4.
We are now five months into 2012 and with no information from Sony on the PlayStation 4′s existence, the rumors of the console being released this year are fading away. Since Sony first introduced the PlayStation, each generation of the console has been released in between six year intervals and with no announcement from Sony involving the PS4 it comes as a shock to many that they will not be releasing a new console this year.
Although Sony look like they’re going to break their pattern of release dates, we have to ask ourselves, can we really blame them? The PlayStation 3 is still going strong technology wise, with most of the Next Gen features such as Motion Censoring and 3 Dimension graphics already compatible with the console. It seems as though making a new console now would be unnecessary.
‘The word on the street’ is that the PlayStation 4 will be raring to go at around Christmas time next year. The next question is, “Who will be the first to have a next gen console to hit the shelves? Microsoft or Sony?” According to a post on VG247, Sony have stated they are ‘confident’ that they’ll release a console before Microsoft.
