Speculation about the Playstation 4 has been spreading around the internet recently and some hardware for the system has been unofficially confirmed. (PS4 Road Map and Real Specs). Now the question arises how much money will the Playstation 4 actually cost?
Considering most beleive that there will be no new CPU cell, this will defiantly help keep the cost down. Especially if they stick with Blu-Ray. No matter what GPU/CPU is in the console, the cost of Blu-Ray alone in the PS3 caused its delayed game development and halted some buyers from buying it due to the cost of the system. Very risky thing Sony did as some players switched to the 360. It is paying off now and in next couple of years with mass production of slimmer models. The Playstation 4 could use its new Blu-Ray successor, which can put 1TB of data on a disc compared to the 50 gigs on a dual layer blu ray disk for the PS3 today. The Playstation 4 will also feature standard DDR3 RAM. So what does this mean for the total PS4 price? A lot lower then the Playstation 3.
Some think it will be around $399.99 (US). Sony got a lot of negative publicity over the 600, and even 500 dollar price tag, so I think they are going to try to avoid that sort of attention and try to target a larger market at a lower price. Nintendo was successful with the WII’s low cost system, which most of the buyers didn’t mind the lower quality picture. Although with Playstation Move, Natal and things coming along its likely PS4 will have Move built in or coming along with the console. This could add a cost to the console. Costing about $400(US) or so is possible.
Nothing is set in stone just yet but these numbers are good estimates as to what the Playstation 4 could cost.
